1. I think they really need the money and they can not go into town a lot to sell or make money any way else.

Jason, thats a good question. I will try to help but I am just guessing. I think the family does not have enough money to keep going to town, and they already own a farm so why do something else?
ReplyDelete1. The family sells hogs so they can make money. Why not do something else? They do not do something else because they do not have the money to keep going back and forth to the town. Also they own a farm, so why not have farm animals?
ReplyDeleteI think that they sell hogs because people need pigs on farms for livestock and they get money.

ReplyDeleteThey can't have anymore animals because it takes money to buy the animals in the first place. They don't have any money!?
ReplyDeleteWell Lily, they do not have much money because they are farmers. This might help. Remember in the Egypt unit when there was a social pyramid? The farmers were the lowest class next to slaves.
ReplyDeleteThey don't have other farm animals because as Lily said they don't have money. Also hogs can have multiple purposes in the farm. You can use them to breed and then sell the babies, or you can send them to the slaughter house and have the meat for yourself or sell it.

ReplyDeleteThey raise hogs because they need the money especially with Luke's extra mouth to feed. They can't get a job in town because it's a long drive to town and back everyday. It's hard work but it pays.
ReplyDeleteThey don't have other farm animals because hogs are easier to take care of. You give them scraps and they'll eat them.
they raise hogs because even though they smell they're profitable and can be eaten easily. Plus they dont take much food as say a cow. you just hand them teh left oevrs or the scrap pieces and they're in hog heaven.
ReplyDeleteHis father complained that the grain was selling at extremely low prices. they need to afford the extra mony. Why couldn't they have other animals? well for one hogs provide a lot of meat and if they get fat then they are even better. I dont have any other reasons why they don't.
ReplyDeleteWell, the hogs may not be the most pleasant to be around, but they can reproduce, and when they're big, they can go to the slaughter house for food, and can be sold. Also, as Connely pointed out, Luke's dad said grain was at a very low price. The hogs will give them more money, especially in this time for them.
