Whole Class: The Seems, Things Not Seen, & Among the Hidden - What's in a title?

1. List your title. What do you think it means? Be descriptive and provide examples.

2. How do you think this will relate with the rest of the novel? How does it relate to your life?

  1. 1-A: The Seems, the glitch in sleep
I think the title is telling us what and where he is and what his mission is. For example, no one could sleep so he has to find the glitch in sleep.
2-A: The title relates to the whole novel because the title tells what the main idea is. It relates to the real world because sometimes we can't sleep.

  3. 1. I and reading things not seen. The title relates to bobby, the main character who wakes up on tuesday to find that he is invisible. It does give a hint that other things or people will become like him the way i see it.

  4. 1. A~ The Seems, The Glitch in Sleep
I think the title means that where he is and what his mission is. For example no one can sleep so he has to fix the glitch in sleep.

    2. A~ The title relates to to the book because that is what the novel might be about and what's happening throughout the chapters we read. This relates to my life because sometimes it takes me a while to get to sleep and eventually I just fall asleep like the seems fixed it.

  5. Among the hidden. I think this means that the kid that is the main character is hidden. He is not suppose to be alive, because there is a population law that says that parents can only have 2 children.

  6. 2-A: (cont.) This also relates to my life because when you can't sleep you finally get to sleep and it seems that someone (maybe the Seems) has fixed your big problem.

  7. 1. The Seems is the book I am reading. I think the title Seems means that not everything appears what it Seems. In the book it says that there is another world that makes everything in our world work. For example the seems have a storage tank that holds water for rain.

  8. 1. The Seems the glitch in sleep. I think it means that there is a problem with sleeping. for example in the first 3 chapters a glitch comes up in the department of sleep and Becker Drane has to fix it.

    2. I think that it will relate to the rest of the story because it will be about Becker and Simly overcoming the glitch. This relates to me because I have had to overcome many obsticals in my life.

  9. Great idea Sierra! Have you ever thought about the weather being caused in your life and how it relates to how the seems cause the weather. Maybe try to make your ideas stronger by using stronger connections.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Among the Hidden. I think this title means that the main character has to stay hidden or else something gruesome could happen. For instance, if someone finds out about Luke's existence he could be taken by the government and maybe even killed.

  11. 2. this will relate to the rest of the book because i think he will try to find out how to try to make himself visible again so every thing will be normal. this can be compared to lonely kids at school on t.v. who try to make themselves not noticed. it already hints that the moral will be make yourself noticed in a good way, be who you want to be.

  12. Thanks Kaci. Have you ever thought about another world making our world the way it is? For all we know there could be. Imagine regular people like us making the thunder and storms.

  13. Great connection Aaron! Maybe make your connections stronger by describing the obstacles you've faced and how you dealt with them.

  14. Things not seen.
I think it means that sometimes you know your there but no one else ( and sometimes you) cant even see yourself. And that sometimes even the tiniest neglect can hurt someone. Also that even like in my life sometimes when just 1 person forgets, neglects, or ignores me it makes me feel depressed or even sometimes invisible.

  15. I never thought about people like us controlling the weather, Sierra. Wow that really made me think. I now have a stronger view of the seems.

  16. The title of my book is the Seems. I think the title means that a book cant hold together without the seems of the book, and the world can't exist without it's seems controlling the weather, sleep, and every thing else, because we need rain and sleep.

  17. i agree with jane, she just made me realize that one person can really make a difference in some ones personality. It can make some one ignore others and start a chain reaction too.

  18. 1. Among the Hidden. I think Among the Hidden means that you are among the other hidden children who are not allowed to exist. For example, Luke is the third child born in the family, but the Population Law states that only two children are allowed to be born in each family. If Luke is found by the government or anyone else they will take him away and possibly kill him.

    2. I think the title will relate to the rest of the book because Luke has to live his life in hiding along with some other children. The book relates to my life because I have read books about a princesses who are locked in isolation in a tower until the prince comes to save her.

  19. I think that this will relate to the rest of the story because it will probably lead to him being caught thus making him try to get away the bad guy. His life can relate to Princess Anne from the movie Roman Holiday.

  20. Alex, I agree with you, but did you think about the fact that the people that are Fixers for the Seems are actually people just like us?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow you really made me think Alex. Great connection. I agree that a book can't hold together without seems.

  22. The Among the Hidden book.
1...A title is a super quick summary about the whole book
2...I think this means that there are kids that have to stay hidden because they are the 3rd child and should not exist
3...This is going to relate to the rest of the novel because Luke is the main character and he is the 3rd child who stays in his attic his whole life because other people might see him.
3b...Some people don't fit in and get left out just like Luke. He is isolated from the rest of the world in his attic because the population police might find him

  23. 1. The Seems, a glitch in sleep
I think the title means that there is a glitch in sleep, or nobody can sleep during the night.
    2. The title relates to the whole novel because the title is basically the main idea.It relates to me because a lot of times I have trouble sleeping.

  24. Sierra, During the process of you making Alex think you really made me think. Have either of you ever thought that there could be another world in space with people just like us who could be controlling us?

  25. i just read Courtney's and concluded that things not seen and among the hidden are slightly similar, for example, there are two boys that are either trying to be invisible, or one trying not to. They just have different points of view that make them feel that way, but why isn't luke allowed to exist?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Awesome idea Ben. I like how you tie it back to the book as far what they say. But have you thought about taking that thought and expanding more.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 2. i think this will relate to the rest of the book because Becker Drane will fix the problem in the department of sleep.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Devon, I agree with you, but what about him being hidden? Why else? Can you give examples?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Things Not Seen

    1. I think this means that the dude in the book goes invisible so they cant see him now. They cant see him, but they can hear him and he isn't transparent. He can do everything he could do before his image go bye-bye.

    2. I think this will relate with the rest of the story because i think this will go through the book then get solved at the end . I think this relates to life because sometimes we feel like no one can see us and we feel so alone.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The seems
I think it means the earth cant hold together without the seems, and it might mean not much is as it seems. For example, rain doesnt form because of evaporation in the seems, it comes from the giant rain tower. 2. I think it will relate to the rest of the novel because Becker works in the Seems. The book will probably tell about his job and what he did.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 1. Things Not Seen. I think it means that the book talks about things in the world that are there but can't be seen. Like booby, he's there but you can't see him. I saw a movie called Angels in the Outfield and one angel said "Even though you can't see us, we'll always be watching."
    2. I think it will relate to the book by him having to live with the fact that he's invisible. Relating to my life when I think of invisible I think of those times when you get in trouble, when you just want to disappear.

  32. The Seems, the glitch in sleep
this means that the world is not what it seems. That is where they got the name of the company.
    Example:
The seems are not what they look like.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jason, I agree, but does Luke always have to stay in the attic? Is he allowed to be anywhere else?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lily that was agreeable but why couldn't he just stay hidden because he did for 12 years and he is very careful?

    ReplyDelete
  35. 1. Among the Hidden: The title could be showing that Luke is not alone, but one of the hidden children that should not exist. 2. This might mean that he may meet another shadow child that shouldn't exist. 3. This relates to my life because I have seen the movie Forest Gump, and Forest does not understand things yet he is so inoscent. Also, no one really cares about him besides his family, just like Luke. Forest Gump finally gets a friend, and I am guessing that Luke will find someone similar to him to be his friend. 3. Chapter one/two: Luke is outside when he hears the sound of trees being cut down. He has to go inside, but he does not know why. When people come to the door, he has to hide, but he does not know why. When Luke finally asks his parents, they say he is not supposed to exist because of a law. Luke looks out of the window and can not imagine what the forest will look like with a bunch of houses.

  36. Devon,
I agree with your statement but what else do you think would happen if the government were to take Luke away.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The title the Seems will relate to the rest of the book because, the problem has arose that there is a glitch in sleep and the SEEMS! are falling apart. This relates to me because my mom is like my seems because she helps me with all my plans.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lily,
Can you give examples of how princess Anne relates to this story, please?!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I totally agree with Jane. When I'm ignored I feel like no one can see me and I feel really depressed.

    ReplyDelete
  40. courtney, yes he does or else he will most likely get caught by the population police

    ReplyDelete
  41. that is a great way too relate to the real world Griffiin, bobby(not booby) might have liked it if he were to control his disappear abilities, though i am always to busy trying to make my sister stop getting us in trouble instead of wishing i was not there.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Lily,
What other examples are there in the story? How does Princess Anne relate to the story?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Stephen,
Wow that just amazed me! I agree with you throughout the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  44. i have thought of expanding my comment and here it is:
another example of the seems' control is the weather department that controls weather.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Jason, I really liked your post, but does he stay in the attic all the time or does he go out and risk it?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Good job Lily, nice use of examples,do you mean the title relates to the rest of the story?

    ReplyDelete
  47. That was a really good post Courtney,I like your use of forshadowing and examples.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Stephen,
I agree with you, but is Forest a hidden child and can't be revealed?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jason,
What if someone did not read the book? How would they know why it would be bad to be the 3rd child? Can you explain your response a little more please?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't know what happened to the rest of my comment so I will just rewrite it now:

Luke is a hidden child and that will relate to the rest of the book because the family will have to always keep him indoors, but at some point Luke will have to come out of the house and see the real world. This relates to my life because I have seen movies about princesses that are locked in tall towers all of their life, just like Luke, but he is stuck in his house.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Jason,
What if there was someone who did not read the book? How would they know what was wrong with having more than 2 children? Try to explain yourself a little more.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Seira, I don't understand your response, would you please explain to me about that the people in the seems are people just like us, and how it relates to my comment.

  53. I am so proud of what I am starting to see. Here's a few things I would like to note about your postings:

    1. Great job reinforcing and supporting others' ideas
    2. Your next challenge is to start asking each other more questions to EXTEND THEIR THINKING FORWARD.
    3. Make sure you answer all the questions.
    4. Try to answer all the questions on one posting, so I can evaluate your responses at one time.

    Happy blogging!:
